High Park Residence is an architectural exploration in healthy living through salutogenic and biophilic design. With its proximity to High Park, this residential home draws from its surrounding context and uses a biophilic approach to create an environment suited to daily living and adaptable to changing lifestyles.
The design of the home is suited to the context of High Park but grounds its research in the influential works of historic residential designs. The original character of the house is preserved, and the design maintains its connection to the neighbourhood and surrounding context.
The need for flexibility and adaptability is accommodated through the open floor plan where the layout gives room for growth while maintaining its functionality for post-covid living. The open plan layout maintains privacy within the home while establishing a connection to the outdoors. To establish this indoor-outdoor relationship, biophilic design is used by offering outdoor spaces attached to each room of the home.
The design is inspired by the seasonal changes of High Park and is captured through the finishes and material selections. The use of natural stones and woods throughout the home conveys elements of High Park and instills the concept of living within nature.
