Change: Conscious Architecture
As we move forward into the Holocene Extinction era when climate change has caused wildfires to spread quickly and wars have resulted in a global refugee crisis, what is the role of architecture?
As advocates of social change and sustainability, we seek holistic solutions that account for the unique contingencies of each project we develop. Design is a way for us to discover new economies and efficiencies for social change as well as deliver fantastic spaces and explore their convivial relationships. We believe that successful design is the result of listening to our client partners, other stakeholders, and collaborating with them, and the right team, to achieve original and engaging solutions that are conscious of their context. We supplement that with a research-based design methodology that would ultimately inform the process and the final architecture.
Cities and regions are increasingly raising the bar for developers, planners and architects to develop and build sustainably. Sustainability, however, has changed its definition from being merely in service of energy-efficiency and more about resiliency. We believe that regardless of the project scope or budget, there are always sustainable options to consider. We believed that sustainable design is one that employs both low and high tech strategies towards resilient buildings that are responsive to their surrounding, morphing as needed and contributing to their community. And, so we find it is possible to provide environmentally conscious designs without compromising comfort or quality of space.
