The intent of this project was to experiment with creating not only an efficient space for our client, but also one that is an interesting learning environment for children and infants. The plan allowed for an exciting playground, common spaces and various classrooms. During the design process, we developed the layout and flow so that the transition between the playground space and classrooms would be seamless where each classroom has direct access to the outdoor playground. Different age groups of children are, as a result, enabled to use the common spaces at different times. We took advantage of all available exterior space to use for the playground, and maximized all glazing for the classrooms to allow for maximum daylight and unobstructed playspace. The layout also optimized the ability for the teachers to supervise the children as well as sufficient number of change tables, cubbies and sinks—all ergonomically correct and efficiently designed.
Additional services includes applying for a license under the Ministry of Education and having the space approved by different authorities. Moreover, we assisted the client to select a security system that could have good control over multiple access points. We also worked with our consultants and engineers to provide adequate lighting for the classrooms and create a comfortable temperature for the interior space.
