The Community Mental Health Centre and Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic is an off-site, community-based facility for the Scarborough Health Network (SHN) that includes a diverse range of programs, including psychiatry, clinical consultations, group therapy and medical treatment, along with outpatient rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
The reception and waiting areas were designed to feel warm and welcoming, while adhering to the health and safety requirements of a clinical mental health-oriented space.
Due to the scale of the program, and the diverse range of users who will occupy the space, creating an intuitive navigation system and defined zones for each program became an essential component to the design and functionality of the space. A colour-coded navigation system was implemented, and each zone is defined with a feature colour to clearly distinguish each program. As the project was fully donor-funded, each of the zones was dedicated to a major donor group for the space and each zone entrance features dedicated donor signage in their honor.
